ROAM QLD uses IPStar for its satellite broadband delivery (footprint map). The IPSTAR-1 Satellite is a Geostationary orbit satellite utilizing Ku-band spectrum for IP based user applications. Ku-band spectrum provides the optimal solution for services in Northern Australia with a high Link-Availability (Margin) for user applications using a 2 way satellite dish:
All of Australia can access 2way satellite broadband and VoIP with a 120cm ground station (dish image and specs). East Timor and some northern islands require a 180cm ground station (dish image and specs). Image and specs for the satellite modem can be found here.

Our accounts are packaged for the RESOURCES, CONSTRUCTION and TOURISM Industries, the EMERGENCY SERVICES and COMMUNITY SHARING. They are called Low, Medium and High, relative to the contention rate we have set. Contention is relative to how many connections use the same service. So a LOW Contention means less users are sharing the same feed, and therefore a faster, more robust service. Our classifications of our satellite services are 1:1 is Exclusive, Low is 5:1, Medium is 10:1, High is 20:1 to 50:1, and Very High is over 50:1.
Our Satellite Accounts can be Permanent, Seasonal (6 months) and Casual (Month, Week, Day).
Satellite Internet Plans
VoIP Phone calls over the Satellite link
Our satellite service enables remote customers access to the the cost savings of VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) phone calls, with latency times at around 700ms, when used with ROAM's VoIP* services. The IPStar satellite network and ROAM's VoIP* exchange are in the same building in Sydney so hops, lag and latency are kept to a minimum.
Over the satellite link, we charge 11c** for untimed telephone calls from anywhere in Australia to anywhere in Australia, and cheap international and mobile phone calls. Calls to other ROAM VoIP* users are free.
We cater for many differant types of customers who require differant broadband and VoIP solutions. . Call us if for a custom made plan and service that suits you.
*VoIP is not reccommended when using the Very High contention services. Activ8me has a service that is more suitable for Very High contention and Activ8me accounts.
**ROAM VoIP calls use up 1MB every 4 minutes. Other services can be 2 times heavier or more.
Remote VoIP, VideoIP and 2 Way VoIP Radio / TARA
Our satelite links can be used in conjunction with our own VoIP Network, to provide tele or video phone or conferencing services, with free calls and video links within our network. We can provide untimed phone calls within Australia for 11c, and inexpensive international calls, with a latency of around 700ms (on our Low and Medium contention services). We can also provide normal phone numbers linked to these VoIP services.

Transportable 2 Way Satellite
More mobility can be utilised from our Portable Ground Station on a Trailer', which is suitable for those who work on projects or events on site for a few days or a few months. This is suitable for Freelance and Public Media, Emergency Services, Infrastructure projects, Heavy Maintenence, and Event Facilitators.
We custom make 2 way satellite ground stations onto box trailers, trucks and 4WD's for the Tourism, Events and Mining industries. We also have our own ground station on a trailer that is available for purchase, custom made, rent or be placed on call.
Our 'Ground Station on a Trailer' incudes wireless internet and 2 Phone ports. It is powered by 12VDC and 240VAC. It was originally engineered for quick deployment of community telecom and broadband services after a disaster or tropical cyclone. However, when not in Cyclone season, these trailers can be rented by the day, week, or month - prices.
Our rental unit also has satellite TV that picks up Austar, SelectTV, 7, 9, 10, ABC, SBS, Imparja, GWN and more. This trailer can be built for you for $10,750, or $9,900 without Satellite TV.

Remote Community Broadband
2 Way Satellite is the only way to get fast data to very remote locations. ROAM QLD supplies and installs 2 way satellite services anywhere in QLD, including offshore. We also install wireless to distribute the service around the local region, up to a hundred kilometres 'line of sight' from the ground station, through repeaters. Our service is fully licensed and carrier grade, and with full accounting services that enable Pre Paid and/or Monthly services.
We can also arrange remote 2 way satellite links between 2 or more of your remote locations, including free VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) phone calls, which can then be also linked into either your PABX and/or 2 way radio networks . . . . no need to be at the PC to take the call.
